Health Workforce Optimization

DPD has been at the forefront of addressing Nigeria’s health workforce challenges through evidence-based assessments and innovative solutions. Our team was staffed on a USAID-funded Subnational Assessment of HRH Reform efforts across Nigeria’s 36 states, commissioned by the Nigeria Health Commissioners’ Forum (NHCF) with support from the Health Workforce Management Activity (HWMA). Key activities included a review of existing HRH policies, a detailed survey

administered across State Ministries of Health (SMOHs) and State Primary Health Care Development Agencies (SPHCDAs) covering 45 indicators, and roundtable discussions with over 400 stakeholders across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. The resulting report provided actionable recommendations to strengthen HRH policies and implementation at subnational levels and informed a memo that was approved at the National Council on Health in 2023.

To further address workforce inefficiencies, DPD is implementing ManagedMedics, an innovative platform that optimizes the availability, distribution, and retention of skilled healthcare providers, particularly in Nigeria’s private sector. ManagedMedics leverages technology, data-driven insights, and strategic partnerships to tackle systemic issues such as talent migration, urban bias, and skill gaps. By streamlining workforce management and enhancing access to medics in underserved areas, the platform strengthens private healthcare institutions’ capacity to deliver quality care.
